    Description

    This looks like a shop made project tool and is pretty unique.  There is no maker's markings and by the looks of it to me it looks hand made.  If so it is excellently crafted.  It is a dual purpose tool that is a sliding 3 inch gauge and is also a feeler type thickness gauge for gauging metal thickness.  It has an owner's marking who possibly made it (J. Cartwright) and is dated 1880.
    Cosmetically it is as shown and it works great.
    I have seen a lot of machinist tools but never one of these.
